David Alaba to miss Copa del Rey Final after suffering Thigh Injury

Real Madrid’s David Alaba has been sidelined with a muscle tear in his thigh, after being taken off at half-time during their Champions League victory over Chelsea. This is not the first time the Austrian defender has struggled with injury this season, having only just returned from a previous muscle issue in late March.

Despite this setback, Alaba is still in contention to make the Copa del Rey final, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to start the match.

Alaba’s absence means that Antonio Rudiger is likely to take his place in the side for upcoming matches against Celta Vigo, Almeria, Rayo Vallecano and Real Sociedad in La Liga. However, Real Madrid have looked more solid with Alaba in the side at times, and Carlo Ancelotti clearly trusts him ahead of Rudiger.

Can Alaba Recover in Time for the Copa del Rey Final?

Real Madrid’s next major fixtures are against Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on May 6th, followed by Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals just three days later. Alaba is expected to be back in training three days before the Osasuna match, but it remains to be seen whether he will be deemed fit enough to start.

Despite his injury woes this season, Alaba’s importance to the team cannot be overstated. Real Madrid will be hoping to have him fit and firing for the crucial stretch of the season, as they look to challenge for both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
