Liverpool’s Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s red card suspension of three games has been turned down owing to a successful appeal from the club. He was slated to miss three matches due to the card but the decision has been overturned.
Alexis suspension gets overturned
Alexis Mac Allister has been one of the top midfielders over the last few years, after he joined Brighton and Hove Albion. He was instrumental in leading Brighton to a favorable top six finish last season, thus achieving a European elite slot this season, ahead of the likes of heavyweights like Tottenham and Chelsea. Owing to the might of Brighton’s stars like Kauru Mitoma, Mac Allister under the strict vigil of Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls have achieved a surprise legendary status and they would look to keep that epitaph intact.
Alexis came to the radar of several top clubs like Liverpool, when he had won the world cup with Argentina in Qatar. His exploits in the midfield coupled with his swift dribbles and passes with finesse were the talk of the tournament, and since then, he did not had to look back. Heavyweights like Liverpool started to bid for him, as Jurgen Klopp led side wanted to reinforce his midfield after rumors of several top midfield stars from the Reds like Henderson, Fabinho surfaced, which made him vouch for other newbies. As the last season came to an end, Mac Allister joined forces with Liverpool, switching allegiance from Seagulls to Reds.
A nightmarish debut
Liverpool had fielded Mac Allister in their first away game against Chelsea, where the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. This weekend, the Argentine got on board to start his first home game for Liverpool. With the Reds conceding an early goal against AFC Bournemouth, they had to up their ante as Klopp was desperate to get their first three points in this season. Mac Allister was instrumental in holding the ball in the midfield and worked up several passes, stitching to wingers Salah and Diaz.
But he had to bear the brunt of “harsh” refereeing decisions, On the 58th minute, it was shown that Alexis has clipped Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie’s foot, as the referee halted the game to brandish the red card which came quite as a surprise for Klopp’s side. As a result, he was suspended for three games, and which could have proved fatal for Liverpool’s chances of going up the table.
But, on Tuesday, it surfaced that FA has turned down Alexis’ suspension decision for three games, as he has made himself available for the game against Newcastle United this weekend. FA’s Independent Regulatory Association has vied with the Reds’ appeal and announced the verdict which said, “An independent regulatory commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal.”
The decision of Mac Allister’s red card did leave everyone in splits, with the red card receiving tantalizing backlash over last two days. Thanks to FA’s decision, Klopp could take his best star in the starting eleven, thus strengthening the midfield setup.
