Angel Di Maria, a legendary star of Argentina has been on the headlines again, but this time due to tricking former Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo, which kept the Portuguese in shock. Di Maria has joined his boyhood club SL Benfica, and were playing a friendly against Ronaldo’s club Al-Nassr, where the Portuguese champions have thrashed the Saudi League runners-up.
Di Maria, the Argentine fortune
Angel Di Maria, fondly known as “Fideo”, has been considered to be one the clutch players for the national team of Argentina. Di Maria has been fortunate enough to get on the scoresheet in each of the finals he has played with the “Albiceleste”, be it the vital winner in Copa America, Finalissima or in the coveted World Cup. He has played his trade in several heavyweights as his roster comprises Benfica, Manchester United, Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus. He has recently joined Benfica, as the prodigal child returns home after a successful outing over the years.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been in dazzling form in Saudi Arabia and have been impressing his critics with his tricks and magic. His side Al-Nassr is on a European pre-season tour , where they have faced La Liga side Celta Vigo before turning up against Portuguese domestic champions Benfica, unfortunately being trumped on both occasions. But, what remained as the highlight of the game against Benfica was the greatest trickster Ronaldo getting tricked by his former mate Angel Di Maria, as the Argentine grabbed the bragging rights in a “not so friendly” reunion.
Class of Di Maria at its best
Di Maria was always known for his class and temperament. The tall and slender guy from Argentina, who was often known for his skills on the field, which involved immaculate dribbling, swift passing, outpowered his former teammate Ronaldo last night. Also, in this starry yet ‘tricky’ night, Di Maria stole the show from Ronaldo when he rounded his mesmeric display with a sweet hit in the back of the net.
As the ball landed, Ronaldo was clever enough to go for it as he wanted to grab the ball before Di Maria, but the Argentine was an expert in playing mind games as he lured Ronaldo into that trap, lobbed the ball over his head, thus outfoxing his former mate from the Spanish capital.
Although not on the field for the entire duration, Maria was potent enough to showcase his vast array of skills when he was on the field. as his side comfortably breezed past Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, inflicting them another painful defeat after they were humiliated in the hands of middling club of La Liga, Celta Vigo by a margin of 0-5. Next, they would be facing a stern test against French heavyweights, Paris Saint-Germain, who will be playing with the likes of Mbappe, Neymar.
