Angel di Maria returns to Benfica after 13 years
Earlier on Wednesday, the former Real Madrid winger has reclaimed his spot back in the Portuguese club, Benfica, where he used to play back in the old days starting from 2007 till 2010 when he had just newly made his move from Argentina.
The FIFA World Cup winning winger was welcomed into his old club through a video announcement which stated “Welcome home, Di Maria!”.
According to the latest reports, the 35-year-old Argentinian international has signed a contract of 1 year with the Portuguese outfit.
Angel di Maria, who had previously scored a very crucial goal in the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup finals for his national team against the defending champions France, had a fine launching first spree with Benfica, the Portuguese champions.

Di Maria’s run with Benfica ensured to be a prelude and lead up to his huge glorious rise to fame and popularity which came with the transfer to the La Liga giants, Real Madrid, where di Maria had the chance to play alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentinian, Di Maria is also one of the very players, who has had the privilege to play along with the two greatest footballers of all time of our generation, Lionel Messi on the country side, and Cristiano Ronaldo on the club side.
Angel di Maria had spent the previous season playing in the Italian Serie A for Juventus, after having spent a very long and successful run with the French club, Paris Saint-Germain, where he had again united with Lionel Messi.
Di Maria’s decision to join Benfica again in Portugal probably stems from a feeling of nostalgia as he enters the twilight of his career at the age of 35. He will be joining his fellow countryman, Nicolas Otamendi in Portugal.
