Ansu Fati: Brighton star scores first English Premier League goal as Aston Villa pummels the Seagulls 1-6

Ansu Fati, the Barcelona loanee who has been one of the top stars for the Catalan giants over last few seasons, gets taste of first English Premier League goal when he scored past Emi Martinez, today, against Aston Villa. Apart from Ansu’s first strike, Brighton had looked hapless after a classy Ollie Watkins hattrick sank them, with the Villans scripting history by winning the game 6-1.

Ansu Fati scores first Premier League goal

Ansu Fati has been one of the top youngsters for Barcelona over the years. A La Masia product, who once held the record of being the youngest goal scorer for Barcelona at the Champions League, he was always looked upon as one of the promising prodigies in the making for the Catalan side, and has always proved himself clutch in crucial junctures. But, as destiny holds for someone, Ansu’s bright progress was impeded due to several injury issues, as he was often seen on the sidelines for the La Liga champions, vouching for a return in to the starting line-up.

Although he used to give frequent comebacks, his progress was always dogged by injuries, which prevented him from making an indelible mark in Xavi’s mind. Last season, he was mostly sitting out because of his injuries but he came back strongly in the later half of the season, as his numbers would speak volumes about his caliber, when he became the second highest goal scorer for Barcelona, with ten goals, after Robert Lewandowski. However, due to lack of his involvement in game time, he decided to switch his allegiance to Premier League giants Brighton, who had secured an European berth after finishing on fifth position last season.

A day to remember for the youngster

Although Roberto De Zerbi’s side had a day to forget after a 1-6 thrashing in the hands of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, Ansu would definitely remember this special occasion where he etched his name in the history books by scoring his first Premier League goal. The first half went miserable for the Seagulls, when they saw themselves 0-3 down with 26 minutes on the clock, owing to a flashy Ollie Watkins brace. But, with the second half underway, Brighton decided to go for the kill but destiny was not with them today as they were further humiliated by the blitzkrieg footballing style of Watkins, who scored a hattrick to sink the Seagulls down.

The Barcelona loanee Fati, who was introduced in half-time, had a glorious day with the ball, and was seen getting into the groove the moment he got on the field. And within five minutes of his introduction, he registered his name on the score sheet, after Joao Pedro hurled the ball across the box to Fati. The Spaniard was well alert to slot past the ball past Martinez, as he was stationed at the far post.

It was Fati’s 30th senior goal after turning professional. This means he has scored in La Liga, Champions League, Spanish Super Cup, Copa Del Rey and now in Premier League. He would look to add plenty to his Premier League career, so that he could use it to enhance his mojo in the Spanish League.

Apart from Ansu’s goal, Brighton had no clue of the onslaught that Unai Emery’s side has inflicted upon them, as they gear themselves up for a tough weekend after 1-6 drubbing, with Ollie Watkins scoring the majority of goals. They will be facing French giants Marseille on 5th October in an Europa League away fixture, with De Zerbi hoping of a miraculous turnaround.
