Manchester United striker will be without the services of star striker Anthony Martial as the French striker would be sidelined due to injury, which he suffered during United’s last game against Fulham. Without him, boss Erik Ten Hag might be in a difficult situation as to who he would look up to for the heavyweight clash against local rivals Manchester City.
Anthony Martial to sit out the final clash
In a clash of the heavyweights which involve a face-off against city rivals Manchester City, it might prove costly for the “Red Devils” missing out their striker who has been the starter for the club on many occasions. In the last game against Fulham, where United edged past them by 2-1, Martial was suspected to get the injury and test reports showed he has tore a muscle.
He has involved in scoring nine goals for the club in 29 outings but most of his season was plagued by injuries, and would even end with a hamstring injury.
Looking for viable replacements
The club statement after Martial’s test reports have stated the fact of his missing the game. It read, “Assessments have revealed a muscle tear that leaves the 27-year-old out of the Wembley clash”. This injury leaves Ten Hag to ponder over possible replacements on the front. Top scorer of the team this season, Marcus Rashford, could be a possible player who might take up that place but he is not a conventional striker. Rashford has hit a dream record for the Devils this season, scoring 30 goals and is expected to play as a center forward in the upcoming fringe clash.
Dutch to play the role?
Wout Weghorst, the undisputed striker could make in to the starting eleven, owing to Martial’s absence. The Dutch striker has scored just two goals in his loan spell in which he had not found the back of the net in the last fifteen games, might be included in Erik Ten Hag’s starting line-up, where he might prove beneficial if he can play the role he played in the World Cup quarter final against Argentina.
Owing to Martial’s injury plagued season, it is a headache and necessity for Manchester United to sign a conventional center forward for the next season, where Harry Kane might light up the squad if rumors are to be believed.
