Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag has finally found some solace within their ranks as Brazilian winger Antony, who was allegedly involved in physical assault case, would finally be available for selection in the upcoming fixtures. Police investigation against Antony will continue as the player will make a comeback within the squad.
Antony to return
Manchester United and their Dutch boss Erik Ten Hag has been going through a tumultuous situation in the last few days. They have been losing several crunch fixtures, and have lost several of their players due to injury. To put final nail in the coffin, the forward section of Red Devils have been depleted, owing to the departure and missing of several stars. Mason Greenwood, their homegrown boy was impeded from coming back in the squad owing to severe backlash from a part of supporters, even after getting cleared by Crown Prosecution Service, and as a result, he has decided to switch his allegiance to Spanish side Getafe CF, where he greeted with a rousing welcome from the supporters.
Jadon Sancho, the former Borussia star and a product of Manchester City, has had a fall-out with the boss Erik Ten Hag after calling himself a ‘scapegoat’ in response to the gaffer’s comments about his exclusion from squad. As it stands in the present scenario, Sancho has been banished from all activities at Carrington ground, which includes using the dining room, as Sancho is ‘compelled’ to dine with academy players.
On top of that, Antony was involved in a serious accusation by his ex-partner, where the Brazilian attacker was held responsible for physical assault with her, and was investigated owing to the allegations made against him.
Greater Manchester police has confirmed that although Antony would be made available for United’s further games, he is being investigated for his allegations. Last month, he was even excluded from the national squad of Brazil in two friendlies, as police continues to question him on the basis of complaints registered by Antony’s former partner Gabriela Cavallin.
The Brazilian denies allegations
Antony, when he was questioned about his wrongdoings, had denied any serious accusations against him, which included further allegations made by Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana. In a statement on 10th of September, he was head saying, “I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth.”
As of now, United has mentioned in their statement about Antony’s return, as inclusion of the forward would effectively bolster Ten Hag’s attack, which has been depleted over last few weeks. Along with Garnacho, Rashford and Martial, Antony’s addition would look to improve the squad, as they would look to spearhead the attack of Red Devils.
United’s official statement read, “Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so. As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.”
They further mentioned about standing in solidarity against any sorts of violence and criminal activities. It read, “As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognize the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
With Antony back, Ten Hag would be content enough as he would shape the team according to his discretion, as Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo continues to recuperate from their injuries.
