Ansu Fati, Barcelona’s number 10 and one of the promising talents in the Barca setup might be allowed to stay at the club for the next season. He has been a on-and-off player for the La Liga champions as he had an injury-plagued season, being sidelined for most of the time, but he might prove a valuable asset for Xavi.
A talented youngster
Ansu Fati came to the headlines when he became the youngest Champions League scorer for Barcelona few years back. A La Masia graduate, football and precision should run in his veins as he was touted to become one of the top talents for the Catalan club as he grows up. People started to compare him with the likes of other La Masia stars like legend Lionel Messi. Little did anyone know, the young gun would be considered by Barcelona to be sold owing to financial hindrances.
Injuries are a major setback for any professional athlete. Ansu was added in to those lists of injuries and was labelled as one the most injury prone attacker for Barcelona and was sidelined by his team for most of the season. The La Liga champions are on the move in this season’s summer transfer market as they had already signed Manchester City treble winning captain Ilkay Gundogan and has grabbed hold of Brazilian wonderkid Vitor Roque from Atletico Paranaense, and some significant others are believed to be added to the squad.
But due to financial shackles, they need to offload certain first team players like Ferran Torres, Franck Kessie and Fati, the last one being a bit speculative case.
It has been reported that the 20-year old has not shown a keen interest in leaving the club as he would like to continue for one more year, looking to thrive under Xavi, looking to compensate his missed opportunities this season owing to injuries.
A bright spot at the left wing
Several reasons have been pointed out which could be used as some of the solutions to him staying in the club for one more year.
A struggler with the Catalan blood of football success
Fati has been in and out of the first team setup over the last four years. He is just 20 years old, and if used properly by Xavi and board, he could excel in the left wing spot, where currently Barca is struggling to find a perfect replacement for the stalwart Lionel Messi. The void created by the Argentine superstar is huge and it is temporarily filled by some makeshift right wingers like Dembele or Raphinha.
According to statistics, Fati is the second highest goal scorer for Barcelona this season, with 10 goals to his name, in spite of featuring on the field for a meagre 1827 minutes. Thus, his decision to stay in the club will prove fruitful in that position if Xavi follows his traditional 4-3-3 formation.
A perfect replacement for Messi?
Xavi had opted to go with two established right wingers Raphinha and Dembele on both the flanks when they used to accompany Lewandowski. In spite of that area occupied, it will be a necessity for Xavi if he keeps the young Fati in his squad for the next season, as he will provide an impetus to the line-up owing to his shooting skills and impeccable dribbling tactics.
However, Fati has shown glimpses of his worth whenever he was summoned in the starting eleven. Thus, Xavi and Barcelona board would look to provide the youngster with a morality boost so that he could fit right in to the squad of the La Liga champions, as he would thrive to carry the weight of the jersey number he wears, the legendary number “10” once worn by his predecessor Messi.
