Barcelona: Catalan club getting closer to offload French Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window

FC Barcelona has decided to offload their first player of the summer transfer window as French defender Clement Lenglet is being put on the transfer market for the next season. The defender has been on loan to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspurs, and was slated to return to Camp Nou this season.

To achieve someone, you need to sacrifice someone

Clement Lenglet has been one of those players for FC Barcelona who came to the club on the back of a superb record in their previous outings, but gradually faded away due to several circumstances. He was accused of several of Barca’s losses in their outings, as the French international was often a misfit in the Barca defense setup, often scoring own goals and gifting own goals to opponents. As a result, he was loaned to North London side Tottenham Hotspurs, where he enjoyed the entire season at the English club. In a dismal Tottenham season, Lenglet has had a tumultuous tenure here, but Barcelona are edging towards a permanent transfer for the Frenchman.

Barcelona has been on the move this summer as they have registered three signings, with one of the prominent names being Manchester City captain and treble winner Ilkay Gundogan. Along with former Borussia Dortmund star who will be having a fairytale reunion with another of his Dortmund mate Robert Lewandowski, Barca were also able to grab hold of promising youngsters like Mikail Faye and Vitor Roque. But, in order to register them, especially “Gundo”, Barca board needs to sell some of their deadwood, and unfortunately, it was defender Clement Lenglet who will be bearing the brunt of the Catalan board.

Edging towards a permanent move to Tottenham

According to several reports, it is speculated that Barca is looking to sell Lenglet to Tottenham before the end of this month. They need to secure Lenglet’s departure as it will pave way for registering two of their latest inclusions in the squad.

But, according to speculations, Tottenham has made an official proposal for 5 million pounds, which is well below Barcelona’s valuation of the French stopper. As a result, the talks can proceed both ways as either Barca needs to lower their expectations if they want the deal to be finalized before the end of this month or Spurs need to increase their bid.
