Bernardo Silva, one of Pep Guardiola’s front man and Manchester City’s star player has agreed to extend his contract one more year, which will see him donning the City colors till June 2026. He agreed terms to extend his previous contract, which was till 2025, thus Pep fixating on one of his important players.

Bernardo Silva- the Portuguese legend

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has always been picky when it comes to his players’ contract extension stages. He would ask players personally to sign a new deal, whom he favors the most. Portuguese star Bernardo Silva is one of the rare players in the City squad who is entrusted with Pep’s beliefs and ideals, and he would look to continue his blazing form for three more seasons. Coming out in the midfield with all blazing guns is his forte, as Silva, who was linked with FC Barcelona this transfer window, is renowned for his swift run-ins and dribbles across the wings, often entangling the ball in the net, himself or while assisting to his mates.

With the latest extension, fans would see him at the Etihad for record nine years, when he was summoned by Pep owing to some masterclass performances for French Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco, in 2017. His transfer price tag was 50 million pounds that time, as he became one of the valuable players to join City’s forces.

“It’s been a dream”, says Silva

Bernardo, when asked about his decision of contract extension at the club, was heard saying, “[It’s my] seventh season playing for Man City now. And it’s been a dream in terms of what we achieved, in terms of the prospects of what we can still do. Six years where we won five Premier Leagues, one Champions League and all the cups. I couldn’t have imagined it better, to be honest.”

Reportedly, Silva has been one of the top grossing stars for Pep over the years. Owing to his tantalizing exploits for the “Cityzens”, he has achieved almost everything, thus pundits rendering him the title of a “complete footballer”. He has amassed 55 goals and assisted 59 of them to his mates, which makes him one of the top playmakers of this era. He could boast of his trophy cabinet which includes five Premier League trophies, League Cup silverware and this year, he reached the pinnacle of success with the most coveted UEFA Champions League title, when his side defeated a spirited Inter Milan by 1-0, courtesy a Rodri stunner. Eventually, he went on to emerge victorious when they edged past serial Europa League winners Sevilla on penalties, thus adding one more feather to his crown.

He further added, “I am very happy. [It’s] another season where we will try to do as best as possible. And we started well. Let’s keep going that way. I’m going for my seventh season at City. To be here until now meant trophies, meant winning a lot. And I like to win. It’s good to win. It’s not easy. So to be in a winning team, it’s a very good feeling. And I wanted to keep it that way.”

Bernardo would love to win more trophies, and his stay at the club would prove valuable for Pep, as their star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has left the club to ply his trade with the La Liga giants FC Barcelona, and is already breathing fire in the Spanish courtyard. Thus, with Bernardo on the block for three more years, it would be a sigh of relief for Pep, as he would love to make his team around Silva, being one of the senior players, alongside Kevin De Bruyne.
