Brighton: Premier League club confirm new deal for captain Lewis Dunk

It has been a new dawn for Brighton and Hove Albion as the Premier League side has announced a new deal for long-time captain Lewis Dunk, who has been an integral part of the side since years. He has put his contract on pen and paper for a period of three more years.

Lewis Dunk signs new deal

Lewis Dunk has been one of the pivots for Brighton over the years. He is well known for his sturdy defense and rock solid stature, which often prevents opponents to overpower him and hit the back of the net. The Academy graduate who has surpassed the 400-game mark last season is slated to don the ‘Seagulls’ jersey for three more years as manager De Zerbi wants the captain to stay.

Previously, Dunk had signed a five-year contract extension in 2020, which persuaded him to stay at the club till 2025, but now, he has sealed the deal for one more year, thus allowing him to stay in Brighton till 2026.

“Long live the Captain”

Brighton had been one of the top teams in the Premier League last season as they had surprised everyone with a superb sixth-placed finish, thus qualifying for an impressive Europa League. Owing to the likes of Mitoma, Mac Callister and Dunk among many others, De Zerbi’s club has got everyone applauding for them in the recently concluded season.

After the contract was signed, boss De Zerbi had praised the captain and saluted him by saying, “Long live the captain! I’m really happy he has signed this new contract. It’s good news for Lewis and the club.”

Reportedly, Dunk had been suffering from an injury but received high praise and commitment from the club board after helping the club qualify for Europe, playing through pain, as a result, he could not feature for Southgate’s England squad, as he recuperating from his injury.

He has made his debut in 2010, and has been an integral member of the Seagulls since then, playing a key role for them as the club rose through the ranks of Sky Bet Championship to Premier League, eventually featuring in the European elite for the next season.
