Chelsea: Robert Sanchez joins the Blues as they agree deal with Brighton

Chelsea will find one more Spaniard on the deck in front of the goal next season as they have sealed the deal with former Brighton goalkeeping ace Robert Sanchez. Robert will join fellow compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal, the Blues thus strengthening their goalkeeping force, after Edouard Mendy left the club for a lucrative deal to Saudi side Al-Ahli.

Robert Sanchez-latest recruit of Pochettino

Robert Sanchez has been one of the top choices of Brighton over the last few seasons. Owing to his exploits under the goal post, which involves resonating his flying capabilities to Superman, he has been one of the biggest stars of the “Seagulls”. Sanchez has been one of the major reasons of Brighton’s dream run in the last season, which saw them finish sixth on the leaderboard, therefore securing a dream European ticket in the upcoming tenure.

After Mendy’s exit to Saudi side Al-Ahli, where the Saudi Pro League is seen to stack its team with top European talents like Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez and Franck Kessie, Chelsea were in dire need of a No.1. After Kepa was ensured to be the first choice keeper few years back, he was a great shot-stopper under Sarri, but once Mendy came to the fore, he had to sacrifice his numero uno spot to the Senegalese goalie. But, as life comes at a full circle, it was Kepa who had reclaimed his spot in the starting eleven for the Blues last season.

A revamped Chelsea outfit

Pochettino, after his appointment has decided to revamp the entire squad after the club had their worst season in almost 30 years, when they had a mediocre midtable performance. Several stars have left the squad, which includes Mendy, midfielder Kante, Hakim Ziyech on the roster, and have fixed their new destination in the gulf country, playing for Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr, respectively. On the other hand, he has been trying to add new members to the squad like French forward Christopher Nkunku, who has joined from German side RB Leipzig and Nicolas Jackson, whose addition has bolstered the Blues attack.

They required a proper goalkeeper who can compete with the caliber of Kepa, thus going for Brighton star Robert Sanchez. Sanchez has seen the reinforcement of Jason Steele to the Seagulls squad in the latter half of the last season, thus he might have lost his first position to the Englishman.

According to latest reports, Sanchez has completed his medical for Chelsea, as he has signed a deal of 25 million pounds. Whether Pochettino fields Sanchez as his number one or Kepa, it would be worth looking out for in the next season, as Chelsea look to rebuild the entire squad from scratch.
