Erling Haaland has broken several records this season in the Premier League this season. and he has added another one to his tally by netting the 35th goal of the season.
With this goal, he has made the record for most goals in a premier league season on his own. Earlier this record was held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. They had 34 goals to their name from one season.
Haaland netted 35th goal of the season
Haaland broke this record among several others in his first season with Manchester City.
The Norwegian giant, as many have dubbed him, has been in phenomenal form this season. He has been a force to reckon with in front of the goal. And not many teams have been spared from his wrath.
He already had more than 24 goals this season at the midway, which was the number of goals scored last season by the golden boot winners: Salah and Heung Min Son.
This made everyone question how many more Haaland would put in. And the question of whether he would really break the record of most goals in a single season?
Now Haaland has answered all these questions with a big Yes, as he netted his 35th goal of the season in Manchester City’s thumping win against West Ham.
Manchester City beat West Ham 3-0
It was not the usual outing for Manchester City who were suffering to find a grip on the game against Moyes’ men. Despite several big names like Rice, Soucek, and Aguerd missing from Hammer’s lineup, they were able to hold the defending champions until the 50th minute.
That was when the first goal went in by the feet of Nathan Ake. It was soon doubled up by Erling Haaland in the 70th minute. Phil Foden applied the final finishes in the 85th minute by scoring the 3rd goal to put the game to bed.
This win against West Ham has put City in pole position of reclaiming the title. They have a 1-point advantage over Arsenal with a game in hand. They need to win just 4 out of their 5 remaining games to reclaim the title.
In the meantime, they are also faced with the opportunity to win a treble this season. Later in the month, they will take on Real Madrid, the reigning European Champions in a 2-leg UCL Semi-Final.
The city will be the hot favorite coming into the tie. They have had the desired results in the last 13 games they have played at Etihad. While Real Madrid is suffering from a patchy form in La Liga.
They will play the final game of the season at Wembley where they will take on their bitter and local rivals Manchester United in the final of the FA Cup.
Erling Haaland will be looking to score more goals for his club to ensure that they get the desired result in every competition they are going to feature in.
