FC Barcelona have chosen their pre-season destination to be United States, once again, after the last year, as they face some of their familiar foes, in the States. BARCA ON TOUR-US 2023, as the name suggests they would be touring US, repeating their last year destination.
Barca returns to the US for preseason
Barca will be facing some of their known rivals in the tour, with the first two games being played in California, 22 July against Juventus in Santa Clara, San Francisco Bay Arena and on 26 July against Arsenal. For the next two matches, the first team will move to Dallas, Texas, for a heavyweight clash against Real Madrid, on 29 July, with the tour concluding against AC Milan, in Las Vegas.
Return to the other half
The 2022 Summer Tour saw the La Liga toppers tour the East Coast, playing in Miami and New York. This time, the chapter involves the other half of the country, where most of the club activities will take place, with the “Blaugranas” scheduled to play play three of the four games.
Barca will debut against Juventus on 22 July. The 2015 UEFA Champions League finalists are set to face each other again. It will be staged at Levis Stadium, Santa Clara, home of NFL side San Francisco 49ers. The 68,000-capacity stadium will be witnessing Barca magic for the third time here, previously treated to Barca’s outings against Manchester United in 2015 and AC Milan in 2018.
Recent encounter between Juve and Barca saw the two sides settling for a pulsating draw, with an intimidating score line of 2-2, in the last season’s US tour.
Clasico in the US
People in the States often misses out the chances of the grand El Clasico, not until, last season, when these two heavyweights clashed against each other, and Xavi’s men triumphed against “Los Blancos”, thanks to a brilliant strike from newest signing Raphinha. This showpiece will be hosted in AT&T Stadium, home to the famous NFL side Dallas Cowboys, boasting of a capacity of 80,000.
It will be the third time that Barca will play in this spectacle, the first two games were against Manchester United in 2011, and AS Roma in 2018.
In two games against their biggest rivals Real Madrid, Barca have enjoyed a perfect record, winning both of the outings, 3-2 in Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami, in 2017, and 1-0 in Allegiant Stadium, last year.
Other two games will see Xavi’s men face Arteta’s bright Arsenal side, who might finish a close second behind Manchester City, this season after some poor performances. It will be staged at SoFi stadium, Los Angeles, in a first meeting on the US soil. The last outing between the both sides came in the quarters of UEFA Champions League 2016, where Barca triumphed on both the legs.
The final game on the tour will be against AC Milan, with the Italians ready to face the Catalans after 5 years. It will be the third occasion these sides will be meeting, with Barca winning 3-0 in 2003, in Washington, in 2003 and a dominant win for the Italians in 2018.
USA- a popular destination
USA has become a popular destination for the pre-season friendlies in the recent days. It will be 14th in Barca’s history, the latest being in the last year. To attract the North American market, it is key for the European clubs to play there and be able to generate grater revenue from the American side. The next World Cup will be held in North American soil, so it is important for the States to maintain its status in the next few years.
