Gabriel Jesus, the Brazilian attacker has opened a whirlwind confession on his reason why he left Manchester City as he informed about some “crazy” thing which City boss had done that made him emotional thus compelling him to exit the club. This could be one maddening point as it would explain Pep’s authority and attitude with his players.
Gabriel Jesus explains reason of his departure from Manchester City
Gabriel Jesus had been one of the top notch players for Pep’s Manchester City over the years. But, he was content on playing a second fiddle to Argentina star Kun Aguero, who was Pep’s first choice striker, as Jesus was often in and out of the starting line-up, owing to Pep’s affection for Kun. As a result, Jesus had switched his allegiance to City’s rival Arsenal and his addition to the Gunners had proved worthwhile this season, pertaining to a brilliant seasonal masterclass from Pep’s former apprentice Mikel Arteta, almost winning the title, but narrowly missing out after losing against City.
But, what could be one of the brave confessions of Jesus as the Brazilian had delivered something in “The Denilson Show” podcast. His emotions and sentiments had reached the pinnacle in one of the matches against French champions PSG. Despite Jesus being labeled as a seasoned attacker, but Pep decided to go with Ukrainian Zinchenko in the attacking role, which made Jesus upset. Zinchenko is known to be a defender and this tactical modification of Pep was left unexplained by the boss.
“I went crazy”
Jesus has explained his emotional outburst as he was heard speaking in the podcast, “There was a Champions League game, PSG, at home in which he put Zinchenko as a false 9. Crazy thing. The day before, he didn’t even use him in training, he had put me in as a striker.. Zinchenko even joked with me: ‘That day I felt bad or you’. Two hours before the game, there’s a team talk, the team eats, rests for 30 minutes and goes to the game… I didn’t even eat. I went straight to the room, crying, I called my mother to talk: ‘I want to leave’. I’m going home, because he put (Zinchenko) on. He put a left-back there. I went crazy.”
But, as things could take a positive turn for Jesus, he came off the bench and scored the winner for the Cityzens, after City went down 0-1 due to a Mbappe screamer. Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling had equalized for City with a valiant effort, and Jesus went on to hit the winner. He even admitted he would not even go the warm-up unless Pep gave him a call.
After his valiant heroics in the game against PSG, Jesus thought that he could be given the opportunity to start the game against RB Leipzig. But, against his wish, Pep snubbed him again as the striker was not selected in the starting eleven. He went on to say, “I didn’t warm up. I felt bad. Five minutes after Mbappe scored the goal for 1-0, [Guardiola] called me. I gave an assist and scored; we turned it around 2-1. In the next [Champions League] game [a 2-1 win at RB Leipzig], I thought I was going to play, and I didn’t play.”
“There was a lot of that with him [Guardiola], and it’s not easy. But one [player] evolves. It is really hard. That’s when I decided, I didn’t want to stay anymore. And I decided to leave.”
As of now, the Brazilian and Arsenal number 9 has thrived well in the Gunners and scored 11 goals for Arteta’s side in an injury-plagued season, agonizingly falling short of the Premier League title to his former club City.
