Portuguese star striker Goncalo Ramos has decided to ply his trade in French capital Paris as he joins French greats Paris Saint-Germain. The former Benfica star is set to feature for “Les Parisiens” from the upcoming season.
Goncalo Ramos- the new Ronaldo?
Goncalo Ramos has been one of the top stars for the Portuguese side Benfica over the years, but was not as famed as his country’s stalwart Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now weaving his magic wand in the gulf country Saudi Arab. Fast forward to FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, Goncalo Ramos’ luck came into play as he was selected to start for “Al Selecao” in their tournament game against Switzerland. Coach Fernando Santos would always be remembered for this masterstroke, as Ramos went on to score a flashy hattrick against the Swiss, even before Ronaldo came off the bench. In a 6-1 victory for the Portuguese, Ramos’ blitzkrieg hattrick was the talk of the town, as they eventually were knocked out of the tournament few days later. But Portuguese people never forgot the services of this young talent, as Ramos was gradually becoming the face of his club in Portuguese League, Benfica.
His meteoric rise was soon thrusted with a slight push from the French champions PSG, as they had bid for the new Ronaldo, to bolster their attacking hopes after the mesmerizing trio of Messi-Neymar and Mbappe have fallen apart. Messi is swooning his fans on the American soil, superstar Mbappe is not “allowed” to play for the first team and Neymar is slated to leave the club as he has informed club board of his intention of departing. With no ‘big’ name in the frontal setup, PSG were desperate to get hold of a star, and signing Goncalo Ramos would be valuable for the club as it will enhance the club’s attacking mindset.
A loan move which will advance for a buying option
The Portuguese star will materialize his move to Parc des Princes for a season-long loan which will permanently change to a transfer in one year. He will reportedly cost 80 million euros once his move becomes permanent. He will be the tenth signing of PSG this summer, amidst surging uncertainty about their current superstars Neymar and Mbappe.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has praised and welcomed their new recruit from the Eagles’ as he said, “We are very happy to welcome Goncalo Ramos as an exciting new striker in our PSG family. Goncalo is a fantastic international player, who is young, hungry and fights for the team. It is these kinds of players who are the future of our great institution.”
Ramos has created a milestone when he donned the Benfica jersey last season as he scored 27 goals and became the youngest striker to breach the 25-goal mark since club legend Eusebio. Thus, PSG will hugely be benefitted from his signing as he will bring with him the hungry-for-goal mentality, thus boosting their attack ahead of a probable Mbappe and Neymar departure.
