Tottenham Hotspurs are hot in pursuit of Leicester City ace midfielder James Maddison as they are believed to be closing the deal of 40 million pounds with the player. Maddison would be a valuable addition to the Spurs midfield as he was counted among of the top stars in the Leicester ranks.
A notable inclusion to the squad
James Maddison has been one of the best midfielders to reckon in the Leicester club. Although the surprise champions from 2015/16 season when Leicester City defied all odds to win the Premier League against the likes of heavyweights Manchester City, Liverpool among many others were relegated this season, Maddison’s reputation seems untarnished as several giants of the English football have made him the target. In a sorry season for the Foxes, he managed to hit the back of the net 10 times and assisted nine of them to his teammates.
Newly appointed manager Ange Postecoglou will look to bolster his midfield after achieving Maddison as he would like to re-build his squad in each position.
Among the elite club
Over the past five seasons, Maddison has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and his name is equally pronounced with his contemporary legends like Kevin De Bruyne and Son-Heung Min. He has made 203 appearances for the Foxes, and his contribution in the King Power Stadium over the past five years will never be forgotten, as he has amassed a mammoth 55 goals and 41 assists for the Foxes. His creative playmaking capabilities will provide a depth to Postecoglou’s side as Spurs have lacked a creative midfielder since Eriksen’s departure in 2020.
Since his joining Leicester from Norwich in 2018, only two players have created more chances than him- Kevin De Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Thus, he serves his name right when he is compared among the greats of Premier League.
It will take few matches to realize how will he fare while donning the Spurs jersey, as Postecoglou will look to utilize this valuable signing to the fullest. Maddison is slated to complete his medical with the Spurs board as his move will materialize in the next hours.
