Marc Andre ter Stegen was at it again as he equaled the record for most clean sheets in a season, rallying to save the fierce shots from Atletico strikers, as Barcelona eased past Atletico 1-0, owing to a superb strike from Ferran Torres, just before half time.
With the clean sheet from the last game, he equaled former Barca great Claudio Bravo’s record for most clean sheets in a season, which he held since 2014/15 season.
The great wall of Barcelona
Ter Stegen proved his mettle once again last night against Atletico Madrid, as he made some vital saves which helped his side beat the “Rojiblancos”. Griezmann and Correa of the opposite side tested the German continuously but he was never unnerved by their attacking prowess as he kept on thwarting them from scoring.
Going for the record
The German international has excellent record of clean sheets this season, as he has conceded goals only in seven of the 30 games played in the League. The lucky teams who has scored against him are Real Sociedad, Osasuna, Real Madrid, Espanyol, Real Betis and Almeria. Rest of the teams could not find a way to squeeze past him as he has been a sturdy rock wall for the Blaugranes.
Barcelona’s superb and dream run this season is mostly contributed by its defense and never-say-never attitude of the shot-stopper. Already equaling the La Liga record, the European record for most clean sheets will be up for grabs for him, as he will be looking for the record of the goalkeeper who let least number of goals in a season. Some lucrative names feature on the list like Jan Oblak, who conceded 18 goals from 38 games, whilst the German conceded 9 from 30.
