Laporte: Star defender likely to exit Manchester City next summer

Aymeric Laporte, the Spanish international who has been a first choice defender for Guardiola in Manchester City and has featured for the Spanish national team, is highly rumored to leave the English champions the next summer.

He has been on his prime for several seasons, as Pep has regarded him very highly of his ability to press and defend in crunch situations, but seems to have fallen out of his favor in the recent seasons as he is not considered in Pep’s tactics.

Key ace to be missed?

Aymeric had joined the English side in the winter transfer of 2018, and has since won many accolades for City, along with Premier League titles and has been garnishing his trophy cabinet with some domestic cups. The former Athletic Club player has fallen out of favor of Pep as the latter is unhappy with the player’s undermining performance in the recent games. Aware of the situation, City board will not stop him from leaving and is reportedly looking for a new destination in the next season, as Pep does not require unhappy players in the squad.

Facing a stiff competition from fellow central defender Manuel Akanji , he lost out by a big margin as the latter has featured more in this season, while the Spaniard making into the starting line-up just 17 times, compared to 44 from the last season.

Heading for a mega club?

Barcelona is closely monitoring Laporte’s situation as if the player leaves the English side, they might grab that opportunity to sign the defender to strengthen their back, provided someone gets injured.

It has been reported that the Catalan club managed by their legend Xavi is attentive of the Laporte-Manchester City saga and they might look to prepare their paper works for him, thus proving to be a valuable addition to the star-studded backline of Barca, comprising the likes of Araujo, Balde.
