Leandro Paredes: Argentine World Cup winner joins Italian giants Roma for a two-year deal

Leandro Paredes has decided to switch his allegiance from France to Italy to complete his “Italian job” as he joins former UEFA Conference League winners Roma on a two-year deal. It has been a ‘remontada’ for Paredes, as the Argentine star returns to Rome to light up the streets of the Italian capital.

Leandro Paredes returns to Roma

Leandro Paredes has been one of the top stars for the Argentina national team in the recent days. He has been known for his exploits in the midfield position under Lionel Scaloni, thus playing a pivotal role in leading the “Albicelestes” to a much-awaited World Cup glory, last year in Qatar. The former Juventus and PSG star, who has been one of the instrumental stars for both the teams, would look to enhance Roma’s reputation in the midfield repertoire, a club which is well known for boasting stacked-up stars like Daniele De Rossi, Nicolo Zaniolo and Francesco Totti.

Reportedly, Paredes seems to have joined the club which will see him don the Roma colors for a period of two years, with his contract running till 30 June 2025. He will be sporting the jersey number 16, once proudly represented by a legendary figure of Roma, Daniele De Rossi, thus Paredes having huge boots to fill in. His addition to the squad would bolster Roma’s midfield mindset as he brings with him his attacking and outrageous mentality of scoring goals and providing assists, a quality which boss “The Special One”, Jose Mourinho, would approve of.

In for a second stint

Paredes, is slated to compete for Roma for a second stint at the capital city after he joined the club a decade back, in 2014, after having a brief spell at Chievo. He spent on either side in a season-long deal at Empoli, and has also been on the radar of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, also plying his trade for the European heavyweights.

After signing for Roma, he was heard revealing, “Coming back to Rome is always a special thing, but doing so now as a Roma player is even more special. Iโ€™d like to thank the fans for welcoming me and Roma for bringing me back to the club where I launched my career in Europe. Last year was an incredibly happy one for me with the World Cup, so now I want to keep tasting success and Iโ€™m convinced I can do just that with this team.”

Paredes would join his “Seleccion” teammate Paulo Dybala in the club, as both would like to continue the streak of their link-up play which is prevalent in the National jersey.

General manager of Roma football club Tiago Pinto added Paredes’ urge to return to the club when he was contacted, as he said that his target was to don the Roma colors once again. Pinto was heard saying, “His strong willpower made us even more convinced that we should bring him back to the Giallorossi and weโ€™re delighted to see him back in Roma colors. Ever since his first stint here, he has matured and gained international experience, combined with his knowledge of Italian football and his technical attributes, weโ€™re sure this will all prove to be crucial and strengthen our squad.”

Thus, people of Rome will be eager to look for there latest midfield star, as Paredes would look to emulate De Rossi’s career in the jersey, shouldering a huge responsibility.
