Lionel Messi scores brace against Orlando

After a lengthy weather delay in DRV Pink Stadium, both teams geared up for a mouth-watering clash at the Round of 32 in Leagues Cup. Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, who was named the captain in today’s clash, would have looked up to continuing his impressive run of form on the American soil. as he had amassed three goals in two games, scoring a stereotypical Messi-esque free-kick on his debut. His old mate Sergio Busquets was also named in the midfield, where the forward attack consisted of Messi’s new mate Josef Martinez on the front, flanked by Messi and Finnish star Rob Taylor on the wings.

Quite expectedly, Messi gave Miami the lead on the 7th minute, with an outrageous lob from Rob Taylor, which was picked by Messi right in front of the goal, thus giving Tata Martino’s side the much anticipated lead in a potentially high-voltage match. It is looking to become a routine for the football stalwart to chip in valuable contributions with his team, as it was his third game for Miami, where he has scored a goal, increasing his tally to four goals in three outings.

Messi hit the “Wakanda” celebration after getting on scoresheet, thus implying his enjoyment in the Miami colors. With this goal, Miami was having a comfortable possession in the game, just before Cesar Araujo of Orlando, struck the right chords to equalize the game, 10 minutes later, announcing their urge of fightback mentality.

Josef Martinez puts his team ahead

It was unlikely that Messi’s brigade will be flabbergasted at home, so his ‘best’ friend in Miami, Josef Martinez, tried his best to ensure that there is no shortcoming in the after-match party. He put his team ahead from the spot, on 51st minute, thus giving the home side some reason to cheer. The bubbling “bromance” between Messi and Martinez has been the talk of Florida since the day Messi joined the club. Thus, it was up to Messi’s best buddy Martinez, who was gifted the penalty by the legend himself, ensuring a lead 40 minutes from full-time whistle.

A classic troika at play

Messi’s second goal looked like it came straight from a video game, as it was the result of a calm and composed nature of the frontal attack of Miami. With Rob Taylor’s ball from the left flank which landed before Martinez, after the Venezuelan assisted Messi with a sweet little lob over the opponent stopper, leading Messi to blast his shot, with his right foot, right in the corner of the Orlando goal. Martinez, decoding his vows of friendship with Messi, after the Argentine World Cup winner allowed him to take the penalty, which put the Herons ahead.

Thus, Beckham’s team continue their dream run in the Leagues Cup, as they are slated to face off against Dallas United in the next stage of the tournament.

Jordi Alba makes his debut

After Messi and Busquets made their mark on the American soil, it was time for another Barca legend to make their debut. Jordi Alba, who left Barcelona at the end of the season to pursue his American dream, has finally donned the Miami jersey, when he came on the field, replacing youngster Noah Allen on the left back position. Thus, Americans could get a glimpse of the former Barca mates creating magic on the ground, as they have witnessed Messi-Busquets-Alba troika, after two years.
