Liverpool has performed one one of the biggest hijacks of English football history as they outbid their Premier League rivals Chelsea in signing highly considered Ecuadorian star from Brighton, Moises Caicedo. This news surfaces on the wee hours of Friday morning as is reported by famous football journalist from The Athletic, David Ornstein.
Moises Caicedo to play for Reds
Moises Caicedo, one of the highly rated midfielders in English football at the present, is reported to join the mighty Reds in a record transfer fee of 110 million pounds, which is also considered to be a British transfer record. The 21-year old midfield maestro from Ecuador, who has been on the radar for Chelsea over last few months, has finally chosen his next destination as his transfer saga is finally coming to an end.
But, few months earlier, it was Chelsea, who was linked heavily with Caicedo and it was rumored he almost joined them. But, the highly touted Ecuadorian, who was also one of the biggest names for Brighton last season, has seemed to switch his preferable allegiance to Reds from Blues. It was reported by football transfer pundit last night Fabrizio Romano last night that Brighton have accepted Liverpool’s terms for signing him, and the fee would have been humongous for him. It is safe to say that the Reds have ‘hijacked’ a deal at the death for the star.
To seal the deal before curtain raiser
According to Romano and Ornstein, it has been heard that Caicedo will undergo medicals at Liverpool on Friday to seal the deal as Klopp would like to include the star in their roster before Premier League opener. which will ironically, see them face Chelsea. But, a doubt that has raised the eyebrows of football fans from both sides is why and when did Liverpool enter the race to sign Chelsea’ favored star. It is speculated that the Reds’ have planned to submit an official proposal for Caicedo when Chelsea bid for Liverpool target Romeo Lavia.
After this “ironical switch”, it was announced by Brighton that they have snapped a deadline against the star and the highest bidder will be accepted to sign the star, thus favoring Caicedo to switch for the Reds’. Liverpool gradually outbid their tough competitors to sign him, as gradually, they emerged as the forerunners for the Ecuadorian.
Caicedo to bolster Liverpool midfield
With the signing of Caicedo, Klopp would like to use his starlet for the season-opener few days later. Caicedo would look to bolster the attacking options in the midfield as the Reds’ had to cope without their stars like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, who have left the clubs being a legend to ply their trade in Saudi Pro League, to feature for Al-Ittihad and Al-Ettifaq, respectively.
Although Liverpool has added World Cup winner Alexis MacAllister and former Leipzig star Szoboszlai to their squad, inclusion of Caicedo would enhance the options as the highly rated Ecuadorian is reported to outclass his opponents with his forte of holding the ball in the midfield for long durations, which eventually leads to soothing passes to the strikers.
