Mourinho reaches out to Greenwood: Possible loan move to Roma on the horizon?

Former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho reached out to Mason Greenwood with an opportunity of a loan move to AS Roma, as reported by The Sun.

Greenwood to Roma on cards

The talented forward was suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 after he was accused and charged with attempted rape, violence and assault. In February 2023, police confirmed that Greenwood does not face any criminal proceedings as the prosecution has dropped all charges against him.

The future of the 21-year-old is still in doubt because Red Devils’ manager Erik ten Hag reportedly opposes the club selling him, which means he could be loaned away.

The Sun believes that Mourinho has contacted the England international to gauge his interest in making a loan move, and Roma have now emerged as a contender for his services.

A source told The Sun that “Jose rang Mason’s dad and also spoke with Mason. He told him the best way out of his current situation is to start playing football — and that eventually all the hassle will fade away.”

“Mason was pleased that he got in touch and it has lifted his spirits.”
“He wants to get back playing and is just waiting for United to tell him what the future holds.”

It was Jose Mourinho who called up Greenwood from the youth setup for the first time, when he took the youngster to a pre-season tour in 2018. Greenwood made his debut for the Red Devils in 2019 under 2019.

It remains to be seen if Greenwood will reunite with Jose Mourinho at Roma. This could be a lifeline for the forward after a controversy filled year off the field.
