Serie A: Napoli created history by clinching the Scudetto as Osimhen sets milestone

Napoli created history away at Udine, after they drew with Udinese, giving them the chance to clinch the title with five games to spare. Thus, Osimhen and his brigade gave the fitting tribute to their icon Diego Maradona, after Argentina maneuvered the same last year, winning the World Cup in Qatar.

Napoli wins the title, thanks to Osimhen’s brilliance

Luciano Spalletti and his brigade were already having a dream run this season, owing to some all-round team performances, with special mentions to Nigerian Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose impeccable runs and strikes have made the Napoli supporters dream after three decades.

They just needed a point against Udinese, which was well secured with Osimhen’s strike in the 39th minute, with the Nigerian making sure that the Scudetto does not slip away from their hands. They have ended their 33-year wait to get a shot at the Scudetto, last winning it 1990, when the legend Maradona was at the club, and helped the Naples’ side win their title.

Osimhen-someone for the future

Napoli had dreamt of the Scudetto in this season, owing to two of their own players-Osimhen who had scored some brilliant strikes in the entire season and Kvaratskhelia, the prolific winger who has been on cloud nine since he joined Napoli. Last night, Osimhen set a milestone by becoming the highest scoring African player to play in the Italian League. Former Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o had been on top of the chart but the prolific Nigerian striker has outdone the stalwart, toppling him on the charts by increasing his tally to 22 goals, where Eto’o had 21 in a season.

“An exhilarating experience”

Napoli boss, who was at the helm when Napoli created history, Luciano Spalletti was elated at the Scudetto triumph. Despite the draw, he was heard saying about the dedication and determination his club has shown this season. He spoke, “Seeing Napoli win the Scudetto will be an exhilarating experience because it’s a pleasure to watch them play. The final stretch is always the hardest but we’ll enjoy the extended journey as we make it to our destination.”

“We’re so close to our goal and we’ll bring our best qualities to the pitch. We want to be remembered for all the great things we’ve achieved this year. We’ll work hard to show what we can do to everyone who supports us and to all the fans who have been incredible. They deserve our total dedication and we’ll do everything we can to achieve our dream together,” he expressed about the passion of the fans as they erupted in joy as soon as Osimhen scored the goal which handed them the title.
