Paul Pogba: Juventus midfield maestro suspended provisionally after failing a drug test, indicating high testosterone levels

Former Manchester United star Paul Pogba, who is currently plying his trade with Italian giants Juventus, has been provisionally suspended after failing a doping test. He was upheld after Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Udinese on 20th August, as he was reported to be on drugs which would bolster his performance.

Paul Pogba- the French midfield maestro

Paul Labile Pogba, who has been labelled as one of the modern day greats in midfield, will reportedly be serving a provisional suspension after a drug test on him indicated higher levels of testosterone in his body. Owing to his exploits in the midfield sector, Pogba was often dubbed as one of the rare breed of players who can utilize his lanky height to get advantage in the game, thus fetching him several records, either for the French National Team or for Manchester United. Pogba would always be remembered for his dangerous run-ins into the opponent defense and creating chances, with 2018 World Cup becoming one of his breakthrough tournaments, leading the team to a remarkable World Cup victory, with a mesmerizing volley in the final against Croatia.

The 30-year old has recently been held accountable for misusage of drugs by Italy’s National Anti-Doping Tribunal (NADO) and is provisionally suspended. If he is found guilty of the charge, he might be facing a football ban for two to four years. He was taken for testing after “Bianconeri” mauled Udinese Calcio 3-0 on 20th August. He was randomly selected for post-match testing, and preliminary reports suggested elevated levels of testosterone in his body system.

“Received a precautionary suspension order”

After the suspension order surfaced, Juventus fans went frenzy as they would not believe that their favorite star has been taking drugs to improve personal play. Juventus, in response to this, has explained in an official statement, “Juventus Football Club announces that today, 11 September, 2023, the footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on 20 August, 2023. The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.”

However the footballer’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has mentioned that she would not say anything unless another second opinion surfaces. She was heard saying that she was “awaiting the second sample and cannot have an opinion before the results. What is certain is that Paul Pogba never wanted to break a rule.”

From NADO’s official reports, it claimed that Pogba has violated antidoping rules when they had detected the presence of testosterone, a hormone which increases the endurance of athletes, as they had mentioned the presence of “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites”, as the results have satisfied their criteria of being “consistent with the exogenous origin of the target compounds.”

Pogba has returned to Turin after switching his allegiance from English giants Manchester United, and has signed for the Bianconeris on a four-year deal. He has featured a cumulative time of 51 minutes, after coming off the bench against Empoli and Bologna. His injuries seem to have plagued him this season as he has been a on-and-off star for Juventus, and his persistent injury problems have dogged him last year, as he had missed the coveted World Cup, held in Qatar.
