FC Barcelona will be without the services of their trustworthy midfield sensation Pedri, as the 20-year old Spaniard from Tenerife, has suffered a knee injury knock at training today, as is reported by official site of Barcelona. Pedri gets injured, to miss games for few weeks
Pedro Gonzalez, who is fondly called as Pedri, has been one of the midfield sensations for Barcelona over last few years. Having joined the club from Las Palmas in 2020, he has been one of the regular starters for Xavi and other coaches who were at fray for Barca, which included Dutch maestro Ronald Koeman, who spotted the talent of Pedri and summoned him in the squad. At a mere 20 years of age, he has achieved individual accolades like Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy, thus nicely settling himself in the Catalan style of play. Often dubbed as the next Iniesta, he is renowned for his exploits in the midfield, which include stitching passes to strikers and dribbling past at ease against opponent defenders to scoring wonderous goals. Even this season, Pedri opened Barca’s scoring account, when a meticulous pass from new joining Ilkay Gundogan found the legs of Pedri, who comfortably notched his first goal of the season, scoring from a tough angle, defeating Cadiz custodian Ledesma.
Out for several weeks
Pedri’s injury could be a fatal blow for Barcelona as the La Liga champions seem to have been enduring a tough start of the season, owing to a 0-0 stalemate in their title defense opener, before losing out star defender, the “Wall”, Ronald Araujo to injury. Although they had got their mojo back with a hard fought 2-0 victory at their home against Cadiz, courtesy a Pedri stunner and Ferran strike, they would again look for solutions to Pedri’s absence as the club would look at youngsters for reinforcement.
The official statement from FC Barcelona read, “Pedri has injured his right rectus anterior thigh. He is out and his evolution will determine his availability.”
According to journalist Toni Juanmarti, the midfield prodigy would be forced on the sidelines for several weeks, which might not go well with Barcelona club management, as they would be without the services of one of their mainstays.
According to the journalist, Pedri could be looking for a return against Mallorca in the end of September or against Sevilla at the beginning of October. Although he has fallen pry to injuries before hand, but has managed to recuperate in time and gear up for the field activities. But, this time, he seems to have bear the brunt at an early stage, as he would be in line to miss several valuable fixtures within this tenure, as Culers would be hopeful for an early Pedri recovery.
