Premier League: Manchester City crowned English Champions for third straight year

Manchester City are crowned as the champions of the 2022/23 season for the Premier League. This happened after Arsenal was defeated in their latest league game against Nottingham Forest.

This loss on the gunner’s part gave Manchester City their third title on the trot and fifth overall in the last six years.

It is noticeable that Arsenal was leading the table at the end of 2022. They had a comfortable 8 points lead over Manchester City with games in hand. And everyone expected them to win the league comfortably.

However, things didn’t go their way completely as they lost their way towards the end of the season. They were only able to win 2 games in their past 8 games, which led to a steep decline in their game.

Manchester City, on the other hand, was in a different league of their own. They have been in ruthless form since February and have destroyed teams’ home and away alike.

Things boiled down to who won the game between City and Arsenal at Etihad. And the defending champions swept aside the challengers like anything to clinch a comfortable victory, gaining a lead.

Erling Haaland has been the point of difference between the two teams. The Norwegian broke all the goal-scoring records possible in a single season. He has 36 goals to his name, which is almost 1/3 of the total goals (92) scored by City in total.

Having trailed to Arsenal for more than 90% of the season, there was nobody thinking of City winning the title. However, now they are gaping at a treble for the season.

Recently they thumped Real Marid at home in the UCL final by a margin of 4-0. With this win, they booked a berth in the final of the competition and a date with Inter Milan.

On the other hand, they have their eye set on the FA Cup, in which they will take on their local rivals, Manchester United. These wins will make them the first team after Manchester United to complete a treble.
