French champions Paris Saint-Germain would look to bolster their attacking options after stalwart Messi left to pursue his American dream, and superstar Kylian Mbappe is set to leave the French capital. So, they would look to vouch for Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos and FC Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, and would look to seal the deals within this week.
Goncalo Ramos- Portugal’s next Ronaldo?
Goncalo Ramos- the name had caused quite a stir during the Qatar World Cup, in November-December when the 22-year old Benfica striker snatched the bragging rights from Portuguese stalwart Cristiano Ronaldo by getting the nod to start ahead of the legend. But, he proved his critics right by netting a flashy hattrick against Switzerland, when Al Selecao defeated the Swiss 6-1. Since then, Ramos has been the top transfer priority of several heavyweights, including PSG.
Fast forward to 2022/23 season, where Lionel Messi has decided he would not renew his contract at the club, following some disciplinary issues within the camp. Thus, PSG had been shy of one forward since the last few days of the recently concluded season. But, no one would have thought that Paris’s superstar, World Cup winner with France in 2018, Kylian Mbappe, would prefer not to stay at the club. With people in Paris believing Mbappe’s contract confirmation with Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid almost done, he would look for a newer destination in the upcoming season, as his stay at Madrid begins from 2024. Thus, PSG were in danger of losing their best attackers, and would have to field a completely new frontal line-up. With Goncalo Ramos on the air, PSG would look to sign the Benfica striker, thus boosting their ‘forward’ morale.
According to football pundit Fabrizio Romano, the French champions are eyeing a deal worth 87.34 million dollars for the star, and would look to finalize the paperwork, which will see him don the Paris jersey for a period of 5 years, till 2028.
Ousmane Dembele- the biggest hijack in football transfer history
Ousmane Dembele has been one of the top wingers in Xavi’s Barcelona. Owing to his exploits on the wings, coupled with Lewandowski’s striking prowess-were the main reasons for Barcelona to lift the La Liga title after a hiatus of four years. Dembele, the French World Cup winner in 2018, was one of the potent wingers, along with Brazilian counterpart Raphinha, who Barca would boast of in the previous season.
But, gradually, rather shockingly, things became tumultuous between Dembele and FC Barcelona environment, as the French striker decided to switch allegiance to his country side club Paris Saint-Germain, and would sport the Paris colors for a simultaneous period of five years. Thus, PSG, on the hot pursuit of their ‘own’ player, has activated Dembele’s “private clause”, which has made him available to them for a stipulated amount of 54 million dollars. Earlier, PSG had failed to trigger the release clause of the star, which was due till August 1, but the “private clause” came to their rescue.
It is reported by Fabrice Hawkins that it is only a matter of time before Dembele signs for PSG, and when he des so, he will iron out a deal for a magnanimous period of five years for the Les Parisiens.
