Manchester United gets one more Danish kid on their block as they have agreed to reach on principle to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Italian Serie A side Atalanta, for a reported fee of 70 million euros. United will be getting one of the illustrious youngsters on their frontal attack when they field Hojlund from next season.
Hojlund set to join Manchester United
Rasmus Hojlund, a name which reverberates with Manchester City attacker Erling Haaland, is set to join Erik Ten Hag’s side after the Danish star from Atalanta has decided to sport the United colors from next season. He has reportedly agreed a fee of 70 million euros, with both parties agreeing on a 10 million add-ons for the star. It is speculated that both parties are ensuring a swift paperwork in the next 24 hours to facilitate a faster move.
Hojlund, the tall Scandinavian, who has had an impressive record for club and national outfit simultaneously, had emerged as a top priority for Ten Hag after Harry Kane , on whom United had their hopes pinned on, was reportedly interested in pursuing a move to German serial winners Bayern Munich. He was on target for the Italian giants 10 times when he featured in 34 outings for them, last season. While donning the Denmark colors, he was outstanding in the European qualifiers, scoring 6 goals in 4 appearances, which fetched him a stellar contract in the Premier League.
To bolster the attack
Ten Hag had his eyes fixed on strengthening his frontal attack, which lacked a cutting edge in the last season, as a reason, he badly wanted to vie for Harry Kane, snatching from their Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. The Red Devils had got the back of the net for a meagre 58 times, which is 36 shy of crosstown rivals and champions, Manchester City, last season, which led Ten Hag to look out for further striking options. United’s homegrown star Marcus Rashford is set to bolster that thought of strengthening the attack as he has signed a long-term deal with the club, where fellow English midfielder Mason Mount has decided to play his trade at the “Theatre of Dreams”.
With the addition of Hojlund, who has been in red hot form in the last season, Ten Hag could be assured of a proper front three, where they can create magic in front of the goal.
A Manchester United fanboy
It has been understood that Hojlund has been a United fan since years, as his interest and urge to join the Red Devils, in spite of some high profile interests from French champions PSG, is unmatchable. PSG continued to “insist” with the player’s camp as Luis Enrique led side could have gone for the precocious forward, provided Mbappe leaves them.
Currently, it is expected that Rasmus is going to sport the colors of United for a five-year period, with an option to extend one more year. His transfer fee is set to pip Romelu Lukaku’s contract as he is set to become the expensive striker in the history of United. He is known for his speed, agility and soothing techniques in front of the goal, which further resonates with his almost-namesake Erling Haaland. Thus, a Manchester Derby next season, featuring a tall, Scandinavian on both sides will be a treat for Premier League fans, as the toughest league in the world gears up for a “Scandinavian matchup” next season.
