Richarlison, one of the famed attackers for Brazilian National team, was observed in tears when he was taken off the field on 71st minute, after he hit a goal-less run in for consecutive matches. Brazil went on to defeat Bolivia in the CONMEBOL Qualifiers for World Cup 2026 by 5-1, with former Barcelona and PSG superstar Neymar breaking the record of becoming Brazil’s highest goal scorer, surpassing legendary Pele.
Richarlison in tears after being substituted
Richarlison, who has been one of the top notch strikers for Selecao over the years, has recently hit a rough patch of not getting on the scoresheet. Once considered to be nation’s next superstar, Richarlison is currently experiencing a goal drought as he has registered himself only once this season, in five outings for his club Tottenham, the north London side is having a fairytale run under Son Heung-Min’s captaincy. He will always be remembered for his acrobatic volley-esque goal in the World Cup last year in Qatar, when he performed an out-worldly skill to outsmart Serbian opponents.
But things have taken a different turn this season, as Richarlison seems to have been missing his “striking boots” as he has scored a meagre solitary goal in five appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Last night, he was named in the starting eleven along with several dynamic goal scorers in the form of Barcelona’s Raphinha, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Al-Hilal’s Neymar, as they have hoped that Richarlison might get a chance to open his scoring for the Brazilians in a new season.
Missing an easy opportunity
Brazil ran riot at Estadio Olimpico de Para, as they continued their onslaught against a sturdy Bolivian side. Neymar was the hero of the game after he surpassed legendary football star, the torchbearer of “Jogo Bonito”, Pele, becoming the highest goal scorer for his country. The former PSG and FC Barcelona star, who is currently plying his trade for Saudi side Al-Hilal, scored a hefty brace on his way to become a legend.
With a four-throng attack for the Brazilians, their opponents were barely seen with the ball, as Neymar and brigade were instrumental in leading the team from the front. Real Madrid youngster Rodrygo opened the scoring for Selecao, as his brace was stamped with authority, which was followed by Rodrygo’s rival teammate Raphinha from Barcelona, who doubled up the lead.
Ney, as he is fondly called by his fans, took matter in his own hands after the superstar netted two brilliant goals on the way to glory. But Richarlison would be the one to rue his missed opportunity as he lashed out a sitter, which could fetch him a long-yearning goal, instead, he drew flak for missing one of the easiest chances in the game. As a result, he was replaced by Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, on the 71st minute.
After taken off, he was pictured on the bench with teary eyes, as emotions got the better of him. He started this Premier League season as the sole striker in Postecoglou’s side, as Spurs’ newly appointed manager trusted his Brazilian. But, he could only manage a solitary goal in Carabao Cup in Spurs’ defeat to Fulham, and missed a sitter in Premier League victory against Bournemouth, where the North London side edged past the “Cherries” 2-0.
As it stands now, Richarlison’s hopes of making into the starting eleven would suffer a dent as Spurs skipper Son netted a hattrick in their 5-0 victory against Burnley, before international break, as he would be ruing his missed chance from the last game.
