Roma 0-2 Inter: Lukaku Strike Helps Nerazzurri Cements Top 4 Position in Serie A

Roma might be losing sight of the Champions League qualifications in Serie A as Inter gunned them down at their home in a 2-0 defeat.

Inter had come into the game with a great match against Verona. They had thumped the Verona-based club by a margin of 6-0. And hence were the favorites heading into the game.

Roma, on the other hand, had tied against Monza. They came into the game desperately looking for three points to keep their hopes of UCL alive. However, a defeat was all they could muster.

Inter Strikes early in first half

Inter started the game on the front foot. They dominated the possession against a team that was never looking threatening. With some of the key players missing for Roma, they were scampering for possession.

The Nerazzurri side made the most of this opportunity and opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. It was a perfectly weighted pass by Dumfries that found Dimarco at the back post, who made no mistake in hitting the target.

Although a Roma defender blocked the shot, there was enough power in it for the deflection to still end up at the back of the net.

Roma tried their best to make a comeback in the first half itself. But the tight defense of Inter made sure that there was no spoiling the party. The first half ended with Inter leading the game 1-0.

Lukaku Seals the deal for Nerazzurri

The second half saw Roma make some important changes. This opened some chances for them as well. With the introduction of Tamy Abraham and Paulo Dybala, Roma was able to make some impact on the game.

However, they could not find the back of the net despite all their attempts at goal. Inter, on the other hand made some changes of their own and introduced Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine had an instant impact on the game as he assisted Lukaku in the 74th minute of the game. It was a lucky break for Inter when Martinez found the ball from a clearance of Roma.

He was quick to spot Lukaku’s run down the center. Belgium was able to control the ball and took a great shot from outside the box to beat Patricio. Inter doubled the lead with this shot and were able to cruise to another victory.
