Thibaut Courtois: Real Madrid keeper urges other stars to up the ante after Benzema departure

Real Madrid legendary goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has asked the senior players of the team to step up with their responsibilities as it is necessary for the club to maintain its heavyweight reputation. Apparently, Courtois has taken this measure after their lead striker and legend, Karim Benzema has left the club at the end of the last season, thus a leaving “Los Blancos” with a void to fill in.

Benzema’s departure created a void in the line-up

Karim Benzema, the prolific French striker has been one of the top stars for Real Madrid over the last few years. HIs goal scoring prowess coupled with classy finishing caliber has been famous over the Spanish capital. The current Balon D’Or holder, who won last year, owing to his exploits in the Madrid and French National team jersey, has been on the pinnacle of his performance over last few decades. Tripling with football legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Welsh superstar Gareth Bale, he formed the legendary troika, called B-B-C, thus becoming a nightmare for opponent defenders.

But as the norms of the nature beholds, all good things come to an end. Simultaneously with the fragmentation of Barcelona’s legendary trio comprising M-S-N (Messi, Suarez, Neymar), Real’s favorite B-B-C was separated after Ronaldo decided to try his luck out for Italian champions Juventus. Gradually, the troika fell out as Bale was loaned to Tottenham, thus leaving Benzema alone to spearhead the frontal attack for Real.

But, just as the last season concluded, where Real lost the La Liga trophy to their generational rivals Barcelona, the capital city of Madrid was treated to an explosive information, as it was confirmed that Benzema, their favorite star has decided to ply his trade in Saudi Arab, following the footsteps of his old mate, Ronaldo. Reportedly, he would join Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad, and was further joined by his compatriot N’Golo Kante.

The decision of Benzema leaving caused a shock in the Real Madrid hierarchy, as they had expected the star to sign a contract extension for one more year at the capital, thus carrying forward the team.

Courtois asks team to step up

Benzema has been in a crackling form in the Gulf country, and has scored in every game he played. So, in the Spanish capital, people were preparing themselves for a life without Benzema, and were starting to look out for fringe players who would take up the responsibility of charging the team’s attacking mindset. PSG’s star Mbappe, who has recently added to the list of the outcasts of Les Parisiens, is the top priority for Florentino Perez, but a move this summer seems unlikely to materialize as PSG is on the verge of tangling itself in the transfer conundrum.

However, team’s senior goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has seemed practical about Benzema’s absence, urging others to cope with the scenario. It has been heard that Courtois hyped his fellow teammates with the club’s reputation, when he said, “Others must take a step forward after Karim’s departure. We have great forwards like Vinicius, Rodrygo and now Joselu, who also brings something different. It’s a team thing and we need to solve it together”.

Whether Vinicius and others step up in the absence of Benzema , it will be evident few days later as Real will embark their new La Liga season against the sturdy defense of Athletic Bilbao on August 12.
