1. Chris Wondolowski

Chris Wondolowski, who is a former United States International, is the MLS all-time top goal scorer as the striker has scored an astronomical amount of 164 goals in just 378 MLS appearances.

Chris is also the only player in the league’s history who has pulled off scoring 10 plus goals in 10 consecutive seasons and this is simply sensational. He made his debut for Major League Soccer back in 2005 with San Jose but later on, moved to Houston Dynamos where he won the cup twice in 2006 and 2007.

After his time in Houston, he returned back and spent most of his career playing for San Jose Earthquakes where he won the Golden Boot award twice. Wondolowski is well known for his outstanding ability to score goals from difficult positions and his excellent finishing.

He has also been selected in the MLS All-Star team six times and was also named as the MLS MVP back in 2012. The striker’s consistency and ability to find the back of the net has surely made him a legend not only for his club but in football too.

2. Landon Donavan

Just behind Wondolowski is Landon Donavan, who is undoubtedly one of the finest USMNT footballers of all time. The forward is the joint top scorer for his national side cause after a brilliant international career, he managed to score 57 goals in just 157 games and apart from this outstanding record, he was also named his country’s Player of the Year for a total of 7 times. And he is one of the Top Goals Scorers in MLS History.

Donavan played for LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes during his MLS career, and during his spell in America, he managed to win 6 MLS cups, two times with San Jose and on four occasions with the team from Los Angeles. Hence, no other player comes close to winning that amount of titles, and Donavan didn’t just win it; he was the best player in his team on most of the campaigns as he has also been in the MLS Best XI seven times.

Landon scored 146 goals and provided 136 assists in 340 MLS games; if he had not gone to Europe and played with the likes of Bayern Munich and Everton, he would have surely broken Wondolowski’s record for being all time’s top scorer in the league.

3. Jeff Cunningham

Jeff Cunningham is third on the list of the all-time top scorers in MLS history as he has managed to stack an incredible amount of 134 goals in 365 league appearances. He is a player who played for five different clubs in the league, and in all those teams, he kept on scoring.

With his debut club Columbus Crew, he scored 64 times in 203 games, then had 12 goals in 26 matches for the Colorado Rapids, 19 in 28 matches with Real Salt Lake, six goals in 32 games for Toronto FC and 33 goals in 66 outings for FC Dallas.

Cunningham’s speed and agility made him a difficult player to defend against and he was definitely a fan favourite wherever he played. He is a two-time MLS Golden Boot winner and has also been named three times in the league’s best XI. In 2010, Jeff won the MLS Western Conference Championship with FC Dallas. Although he did not win the MLS Cup, his goal-scoring ability did indeed take him to another level in the sport.

4. Jamie Moreno

Jaime Moreno is a retired Bolivian forward who played for D.C. United and New York Red Bulls during his MLS career. Moreno has indeed established himself as one of the finest players to ever play in the league, as he is the highest-scoring foreign player in MLS history by scoring 133 goals in 340 appearances. He was also the leading goal scorer in MLS history for a short time until the likes of Donavan and Wondolowski arrived.

The Bolivian was the first player ever to reach 100 goals and 100 assists in MLS in 2009. His performances were highly beneficial to his team, as winning four MLS Cups and four Supporter’s Shields was surely a milestone Moreno achieved as a player while playing for DC United. Later on in his career, he became the first Bolivian to ever play in the Premier League as he signed for Middlesbrough. All in all, he retired in 2010, having been named in the MLS Best XI on five occasions.

5. Kei Kamara

Sierra Leone International is the only man on this list who is still playing in the MLS. Kamara has scored 129 goals in 356 MLS appearances, and along with this, he also has the best goal ratio of 0.39, which is the best in MLS history. In terms of trophies and individual awards, he is the most successful African player in the league.

Kei had spent almost the entirety of his career in America except for a brief spell in English football when he played for Norwich City and Middlesbrough. In the MLS, he has played for a record seven clubs and has also been brilliant while playing for each team. And is most likely to become the new Top Goal Scorers in MLS History.

Kamara had some of the most successful seasons in the MLS while playing for Kansas City as they helped them to win the Eastern Conference trophy twice back in 2011 and 2012. He also won the fair play award in 2007. In 2015, he was the top scorer in the MLS Cup and was also an MLS All-Star.

Kamara is known for his quickness and his ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. There is no doubt that he could pass the likes of Donovan and Jeff within a few years.

In conclusion, these five players have left their mark on MLS history and have provided fans with some of the most exciting moments in the league’s history. They have set the standard for future players and have inspired a new generation in the United States. MLS has come a long way since its inception in 1996, and the league’s top goal scorers have played a significant role in its success. As the league continues to grow, it will be exciting to see new players rise to the top and break these records. Hence it will be interesting to see if there is someone else who emerges as Top Goal Scorers in MLS History.
