FC Barcelona is set to call upon one of the brightest teenagers of the La Masia, Marc Casado, who is touted as one of the biggest names in the coming days in Spanish defense, in their squad to face Cadiz, in the second matchday of La Liga. Reportedly, he is set to replace Barcelona skipper Ronald Araujo as the Uruguayan wall is forced to be sidelined for a lengthy duration of time owing to an injury.
Xavi might look up to Marc Casado
Barcelona has been one of the powerhouses of football when it comes to nurture young and talented individuals. The La Masia academy, which has housed several top talents and wonderkids over many years, has always been the first to proceed with their senior levels as several stars have showcased their meteoric rise when they have given the opportunity to represent at the senior levels. Starting with modern day stalwarts like Lionel Messi and present Barcelona coach Xavi, the list continues with several other stars on the current fray like Gavi, Nico and Lamine Yamal. Over the years, La Masia has been the face of Barcelona’s youth icons as they continue to rise to prominence till date.
Last season, Barcelona’s youngest member ever to play in league game, Lamine Yamal, was fielded in a match, as the 15-year old rose through the hierarchy of the Catalan club, and is dubbed to be the next big superstar. His academy “amigo”, Marc Casado, might be the next person to get a chance to represent the Catalan badge for the senior side, as boss Xavi plans to bring him in the fray for the second match against Cadiz, which will also be Barcelona’s first game at their new home, Estadi Lluis Olimpic Stadium.
Araujo’s injury might open the door for youngster
Last week , Barcelona has reported that their star defender, the ‘Wall’ Ronald Araujo, has suffered a knock in the hamstring, during a training episode in the week. No definite time period was given for his stipulated date of return, but owing to the severity of his injury, it could be safe to say that he will be missing first team action for at least one month. Araujo’s injury might prove fatal for Barcelona as they would be left without a potent right back, which is the necessity of Barca this season. Sergi Roberto could be a valuable option, with his exploits in the right wingback position has proved fruitful for Barca over the years, as none would have forgotten his clutch goal in the Champions League clash against PSG, where Barca starred in a “remontada” beating the French giants on aggregate.
With Araujo on the sidelines, Barcelona’s potent and lethal “B-A-C-K” defensive setup comprising Balde, Araujo, Christensen and Kounde would be broken as a glitch in the matrix would be evident without the Uruguayan ‘wall’. Xavi might go with his seasoned Spaniard Roberto who would love to play on the right, thus providing Xavi with a lot of options.
Another potent defender in former Manchester City and La Masia graduate, Eric Garcia might be allowed to play from the start as Garcia can play as a center back, with French stalwart Kounde would fill in Araujo’s position. With Casado’s addition, Xavi can reinforce the defensive line-up as he can fill the boots for Araujo, and can also be a potent right back, thus showcasing his versatile ability. So, maybe we can witness one more La Masia star in the squad when the team is announced ahead of a crucial fixture in their title defense, after playing out a 0-0 stalemate against Getafe in the first game.
